Sakra may prove a far more satisfying experience to viewers already familiar with Cha’s Buddhist-inspired story – but even for the uninitiated, Yen’s valiant attempt at wuxia filmmaking should still offer a diverting enough experience at the cinema. The film clocks in at 130 minutes and its sprawling narrative follows Qiao as he leaves everyone behind to investigate the truth about his birth parents, as well as the murders pinned on him, only to inadvertently fall for Zhu (Chen Yuqi), a servant girl – and, handily, a master face-swapper – from the villainous Murong clan. Qiao Feng is on the run in quest of answers about his own secret origin story and the unknown adversaries who are seeking to kill him from the shadows after being wrongly accused of murder and ultimately deported.
